CV short version

Rgd my ancesters: My ancestor come to Sweden from Wallonia in the present Belgium. My first ancestor come to the town of Norrköping in 1631. His name today would be Goffe. These people from Belgium had a new method to produce iron and weapons made of iron. They were called Valloniens, they talked the Belgium language (French), They were Catholics and were granted liberty of religion. They lived separated from the Swedish population, marriage with Swedes were forbidden in several hundred years to preserve their technology. Many hundreds of Valloniens came to Sweden as a deal between the Kings, negotiated by Louis de Geer, to work in the factories in special production teams made up of Valloniens. Reference is the book “Vallonerna” by Karl Kilbom, Stockholm 1958, Tidens Förlag. Google on the word “Wallonia” and read if you like.

Rgd me: My first job in 1959 was to be a nursing auxiliary in a school for retarded children in Katrineholm i Sweden. Just some months. Very instructive. I was asked to continue in a gymnasium, but I was very tired of school. I preferred to work to get some real life experience and earn some money as well. I have learned much later that my family was of labor class and such children should start working to support themselves.

During 1959 to 1962: I worked in Engstrom’s Mechanical Workshops in Katrineholm. Half the time in the office and the second half in the workshop. During most of the time I studied in a correspondence school named Hermods. I became a foreman in a mechanical shop. I made about 127 correspondence letters. Night job, coffee and a new radio, of the mark Blaupunkt, in an old attic room equipped with an electrical hotplate. The room was in an old building directly outside the factory fence. Very thrilling! I’m very proud of it all indeed.

After that I made 3 years military service. I was a military instructor for the last year in the Artillery Corps A7 in Visby. Of that period I spent half a year in the School of the Defense in Uppsala to become a Student. Then I went home to my parent to spend 1.5 year to become an engineer at the Technical School in Katrineholm. My father paid the food. I became a technical production engineer. Even before the end of the studies 1967 I had got an employment at ASEA in Västerås.

As soon as I got settled in a small apartment for a young unmarried person in Västerås I applied, at ABF, for a university course in math. In a year I made it. Later I followed a very special technical education called ASEA’s Higher Technical Course. Then I had got many university points and I was a known fellow. Later I made a judicial course in law and common justice on the university level. That’s it! I’ve often been elected member of the Board of the local Trade Union. I know the applicable laws and Traditions reasonably well.

My time within ASEA/ABB for the years 1967 to 2004 can be divided as follows:

A. Two years within the O-division as a work study guy. My task was to write out and calculate the standard price for the various work moments needed for the production in the heavy workshop. Such work is called preparation of mechanical and electrical work for various products, for instance very big electrical generators, pipe systems etc.

B. 8 years within ASEA Research within the Dep. for Mechanics and for Stress and Strain. During 5 years I helped a team to design and calculate a human centrifuge, for testing of apparatuses as well. I know human engineering. That advanced and very big machine was made for the Soviet Space program.

C. 27 years within the Dep. for tendering and exportation of switchgear up to 1200 kV to lots of countries.

Some comments:
I have been a Swedish expert in electrical short circuit in Cigré in Paris and have written some article about that. I have been an expert in the Swedish Technical Commission to help to create some standards for outdoor switchyards, but also for indoor switchgear rooms and thermal flow. I was an expert on arcing and the thermal flow that occurs at short circuit. I have translated technical specifications in English, French and Spanish to Swedish for salesmen and designers use.
I have been an advisor to designers to show them how a heavy transformer shall be built into a carrier, with a sufficient number of bogies, drawn by a truck. The carrier and the transformer was a closed unit to reduce its total weight. The vehicle was made in several examples. The purpose was to get a new transformer into the electrical system when a transformer failed.
I have designed and dimensioned wheels for trains carrying iron ore by using FEM computer programs. I have dealt with vibration analysis, modal analysis, of mechanical structures, supports, portals, transmission towers etc. Earthquake analysis is one such type of analysis that I know. See John M. I have, with some success I think, been advisor to designers in the ability to design.
During several years I was very busy making PC programs and programs for large computer in Basic, Algol, Fortran and the macro-program of Symphony, and the drawing program called AutoCad. Then I was also advisor for a number of very young people. To follow and correct computer programs is probably what I know best. It’s quite complicated, but it’s fun to realize that it’s possible to get right and it works properly. I haven’t programmed in C++, it would be fun.

Now: I became a pensioner on the autumn of 2004. Everything I have described above was very interesting and never dull and boring, not for a second. Now I’m using my time for interesting private matters, for instance reading classical French and English books, both novels and poetry. Physics and math fundamentals are also within my interest. A lot of time is used to take care of my Alsatian dog and our mutual physical training/exercise. I assist my family when I am able to do so.
